5 eat up sth / eat sth up (eat it / them up)

6 remain + adj. / n. /prepositional phrase(介詞短語)
He remained silent / quiet. = He continued to be silent / quiet.
My sister remains unkind to her boyfriend as usual. = My sister continues to be unkind to …

He remains in high spirit. = He continues (to be ) in high spirit.

8 think …to be… = consider…to be …

9 no longer
Song writers are no longer writing about the modern values of the USA. = Song writers are not writing any more / longer about the modern values of the USA.
He no longer lives there. = He does not live there any more / longer.
no longer 當(dāng)一個(gè)副詞用而不分開，放在主動(dòng)詞后面或動(dòng)詞be的后面;而not any more / longer中的not要放在助動(dòng)詞后面，any more/ longer放在主動(dòng)詞后面。
10 so far: until now / up to the present
So far we haven’t seen Tom. ( so far 通常與現(xiàn)在完成時(shí)連用)
B Sentence patterns
1 “but” and “however”
He would like to go, but he can’t. = He would like to go. However, he can’t.
He enjoyed the song very much, but he can’t sing it as beautifully as the singer. = He …much. However, he can’t …
But直接連接兩個(gè)分句；而however要另起一句，且無論放在句首或句中，需用逗號(hào)與其它部分隔開。
